Even Lighting

Face a window or soft, diffused light. Avoid harsh shadows or direct sunlight on the face.

Plain Background

Stand in front of a white or light-colored wall. No patterns, people, or objects behind you.

Choose a Photo Service

All three offer 4×6 prints with same-day in-store pickup in about 1 hour.

How to Order Your Print

Same flow at all three retailers. Takes about 3 minutes online plus a 1-hour wait.

  1. 1

    Click a service above

You'll open their photo print page in a new tab. Sign in or create a free account (takes 30 seconds — only an email is needed).

  2. 2

    Pick "4 × 6 Glossy" prints

This is the standard photo size and the official preference for US passports. Glossy paper shows facial detail more crisply than matte.

  3. 3

Upload the file you just saved

Click "Upload Photos" and pick the file from your Downloads folder. Use the Print Sheet (the one with multiple photos already laid out) — it's pre-sized to fit a 4×6 print exactly.

  4. 4

Turn OFF auto-crop or "fit to size"

If the site offers to auto-crop, resize, or "fix" the image, decline every time. The print sheet is already exactly 4×6 — any automatic adjustment will distort the photo sizes and your prints won't match official requirements.

  5. 5

    Select 1-hour in-store pickup

Choose your closest store and complete checkout. A single 4×6 print costs $0.16–$0.50. Head to the photo counter about an hour later — staff will hand you your prints.

Cut Out Your Passport Photos

Once your 4×6 print is ready, here's how to cut it down to the exact passport size.

What you need

  • Sharp scissors or a paper trimmer (best results)
  • A ruler if cutting freehand
  • A flat, well-lit surface

How to cut

  1. Follow the dashed guide lines printed around each photo on the sheet — they mark exactly where to cut.
  2. Cut slowly along each line with scissors, or use a paper trimmer for perfectly straight edges.
  3. Verify with a ruler — each finished photo should measure exactly the document size (2 × 2 inches for a US passport).
  4. Don't trim into the photo area — keep edges clean. Officials check both size and corner sharpness.

💡 Pro Tips

  • Order extra copies. US passports need 1 photo, but many visa applications need 2–4. Print a few extras while you're there.
  • Always choose glossy over matte — it shows facial detail better and is the official preference for US passport applications.
  • Don't write on the back until the application instructions tell you to. Some governments require specific handwritten info; others don't allow any.
  • Store the prints flat in a folder until you submit them. Photos with bends, creases, or scratches are routinely rejected.
  • Bring the receipt as proof of pickup if you ordered online — some stores require it.
